ONE OF NATION'S LARGEST VETERANS DAY PARADES

CALLS FOR MARCHERS, SPONSORS AND VOLUNTEERS

New "Parade Info Phone" for "Connecticut Veterans Day Parade"

HARTFORD, CONN., July 22, 2009 Connecticut has begun the countdown for one of the largest veterans parades in the nation. With a little more than 100 days to go, the 10th anniversary "Connecticut Veterans Day Parade" is seeking marchers, sponsors and volunteers. The parade will take place on Sunday, November 8, 2009 in Hartford, Conn., stepping off at 1 p.m. near the Connecticut State Capitol and proceeding through Downtown Hartford for 1.26 miles. There is a new "Parade Info Phone" at 860-986-7254 and the website remains www.ctveteransdayparade.org for registration and all parade information.

The colorful Connecticut Veterans Day Parade honors the dedication and sacrifices of servicemen and women from all U.S. conflicts, and offers the state's residents the opportunity to express their thanks. Last year, nearly 4,000 people marched or rode in the procession. Special features include fly-overs by military aircraft, and a tolling of church bells and Moment of Silence when the parade pauses in observance of veterans who died while serving their country. The 2009 parade will feature marching bands from colleges, high school and middle schools, and pipe & drum and fife & drum corps from all over the state.

Veterans are encouraged to register now to march or ride in the procession. Any Connecticut resident who is an active, retired or honorably discharged member of the U.S. Armed Forces including commissioned officers, warrant officers and enlisted personnel of the Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, Coast Guard, National Guard, and Reserves is welcome to participate. Parade organizers also seek veterans groups, patriotic commissions, local municipalities, and middle, high school, college and university marching bands and drill teams from throughout the state.

Sponsorship dollars are sought to help to pay for the parade. Sponsors can include corporations, organizations, and individual residents who wish to make a contribution to the effort. Volunteers are needed to help with a variety of hands-on responsibilities before and during the parade.
