WINNERS OF THE BAND CONTESTS AT TODAY'S CONNECTICUT VETERANS DAY PARADE

The winners of the five Band Contests at today's Connecticut Veterans Day Parade in Downtown Hartford have been announced. A total of 24 different bands marched in the parade, including college, high school and middle school bands, pipe and drum, and fife and drum bands. A judging panel selected one winner in each of five categories. Each band will receive a trophy from parade organizers.

The winners of the 2008 Connecticut Veterans Day Parade Band Awards are:

FRANK FALANA MEMORIAL AWARD FOR BEST PIPE & DRUM CORPS
The Connecticut Firefighters Pipes And Drums

BEST FIFE & DRUM CORPS AWARD
Mattatuck Drum Band

BEST MIDDLE SCHOOL BAND
Hartford Magnet Middle School Marching Band

BEST HIGH SCHOOL BAND
Newington High School Marching Band

BEST PARADE SPIRIT
The University of Connecticut Band

Close to 4,000 marchers marched in the ninth annual Connecticut Veterans Day Parade, the largest veterans day parade in all of New England.
